Colorado Weddings at Spruce Mountain Ranch

Spruce Mountain Ranch, a 450-acre mountain wedding venue just 30 minutes from Denver, Colorado, is an ideal location for weddings year-round. From summer Jewish weddings to winter gay marriage celebrations, this venue is great for any couple wanting a more rustic Colorado wedding.

Venue Overview: Spruce Mountain Ranch is a picture-perfect mountain venue that combines rustic charm and timeless elegance. Their two properties (the Upper Ranch and Lower Ranch) have multiple venues for you to choose from.

Location from Denver: Spruce Mountain Ranch is great because you don’t have to deal with 1-70 traffic and it’s only 30 minutes south of Denver! It’s an especially good winter location if you want mountain views but also want to know you’ll be able to get to the venue sans ski traffic.

Pricing: The Upper Ranch is the more expensive, modern area. The Lower Ranch is the less expensive more rustic area, see here for specific pricing: https://sprucemountainevents.com/weddings/venues

LGBTQIA+ friendly? From gay, Christian, agnostic, Jewish, Catholic weddings, I’ve seen it all at Spruce Mountain Ranch. It feels like a safe space for people of all backgrounds to get married. With that, always make sure to ask as staff at venues constantly change.

Native Land: Tséstho’e (Cheyenne)

Is hiking required?: Technically no hiking required, but two out of the three outdoor venue locations require some walking.

Size: Lower Ranch venues hold anywhere from 80 to 200 people, Upper Ranch venues hold anywhere from 40 to 500 people

Features: Your wedding package includes ceremony sites and chairs, reception space with tables and chairs, cocktail hour space, 11 hours of venue access, use of getting ready spaces, set up and clean up, and parking lot

Main pros: Everything is on property, and you get to choose between outdoor or indoor wedding venues. It’s so, so spacious, and you get your mountain views without worrying about tourists or the public being around.

Main cons: A party bus is highly recommended for Spruce Mountain Ranch, and if you don’t like the cabin vibes or a more rustic feel, this probably isn’t the place for you.

Congestion level: There isn’t much congestion here, but with that, you will need a party bus or shuttle to get your guests up to one of the ceremony locations. As transporting a large group of people isn’t always the most time efficient, plan some extra buffer time if you go with this wedding venue option.

It’s also good to know that the Upper Ranch’s outdoor ceremony location has no shade, so if you’re planning on using Spruce Mountain Ranch in the summer, consider shade umbrellas and fans for your guest. Keep in mind the amount of time your guests, especially those sensitive to heat, will be sitting outdoors before you and your wedding party arrive.

ease of parking: Parking is a breeze!

best time of year: For winter weddings here, always be prepared for snowy conditions, for spring weddings expect mud or lingering snow. Even in summer, expect chilly mountain evenings due to the elevation. Despite the season, Spruce Mountain Ranch offers stunning views and pine-filled landscapes, making it a remarkable venue year-round.

multiple locations to take photos? There are so many locations on the property to take photos. You will likely be sharing the property with another wedding if you’re getting married on a weekend, but the property is huge so you won’t notice. Between the beautifully spaced and planted pines, to mountain views and cozy outdoor nooks, photo locations are abundant and all on-property, so you don’t have to drive anywhere, hooray!

cell service: yes

Extra CNP Tip: Having your ceremony a few hours before sunset is what I recommend for most wedding days. Look at the time of year, the sunset time, and take into account your guests, your own comfortability in regards to the weather, getting ready time, and what time you’re comfortable waking up in the morning.

Catherine Norwood

I am Catherine Norwood, a designer and photographer from Lawrence, Kansas. My job experience ranges from childcare to leading a media team at a summer camp. I also am an experienced freelance photographer, capturing senior and family portraits, headshots, and portfolio pieces for a beauty stylist. Through my previous work experience I have photographed and worked with a diverse group of people. Through each piece I design and in each moment I photograph, I not only aim to create something visually intriguing and intellectually stimulating, but something that will better society. By working with both photography and design I keep my perspective fresh and I constantly find new ways they can enhance and work with one another. As a designer and photographer, I don't only look to reach past the lens and screen to create positive relationships with the subject, but to also capture various cultures and areas so I can help others become socially aware of their surroundings.
